Windows 10 is compatible with most software and services provided and supported by the Service Desk and can be used by most members of the Bowdoin community without issue. There are some known compatibility issues or limitations depending on the services being used.
IT recommends that anyone planning on moving to Windows 10 on their Bowdoin computer contact the IT Service Desk at x. 3030 to setup a time to perform this task. It is recommended that a clean install be done rather than an upgrade. If an upgrade is done, we recommend applying all current Windows updates as they become available.
IT is aware of the following issues with Windows 10:
- Windows 10 comes with a new default browser, Microsoft Edge. Edge may not work with some Bowdoin services or services from website you commonly visit due to the lack of support for browser plugins such as Flash, Java and ActiveX. It is recommended that you use either Internet Explorer 11, Firefox or Chrome for these websites.
- VPN will work with some workarounds. If you need to use VPN for Windows 10, please contact the IT Service Desk.
